We’re excited to share a big milestone for Superior Fuel Company: we’ve expanded westward with the recent acquisition of Kotaco Fuels in Park Rapids, Minnesota! While growth is always exciting, this moment carries a deeper meaning to us, it’s about continuing our commitment to fueling the lives of the communities we serve.
For generations, families in the Northland have relied on propane to keep warm during long winter months, cook meals for loved ones, and to power small businesses. At Superior Fuel, we don’t take that responsibility lightly. Our expansion into Park Rapids means we can now bring reliable, local service to more homes and businesses. It also allows us to strengthen service for our valued customers already in the region.
We’re not just another energy provider, we’re your neighbors. The people behind the wheels of our trucks, the ones answering your calls, and those monitoring your tank levels, they all live and work in the same towns you do. We take pride in that.
Our team is thrilled to welcome Park Rapids to the Superior Fuel family. We’re here to ensure your experience is smooth, personal, and dependable. Whether you’re brand new or have been with us for years, we’re always working to make your customer experience the absolute best!

Fueling Our Communities in Times of Need
means supplying your propane or fuel oil tank with fuel. But to us, it means so much more. Not only are we concerned with keeping your tank full, but keeping the communities we serve safe. Recently, a large portion of Northern Minnesota was faced with devastating wildfires. When the U.S. Forest Service reached out requesting a truck and driver for fueling support, we quickly mobilized our team to assist with the firefighting efforts. In addition, local fire departments reached out to us in need of fuel to keep their equipment running. Our team members jumped at the opportunity to help by building, filling, and deploying fuel dispensers for the equipment used to combat the fires. We’re incredibly grateful to our team for stepping up and helping us serve the community with speed, care, and commitment.

Serving You Better: Relocation to Grantsburg, WI

This move helps us broaden our delivery area and provide faster, more efficient deliveries in the area to help better serve our customers in the area. The new location gives us a more direct route, minimizing fuel use and helping us serve more customers more efficiently.

Happy Retirement, Dave Swartz!
We’re celebrating a bittersweet milestone at Superior Fuel Company as we wish a happy retirement to one of our most seasoned and respected team members, Dave Swartz!
Dave’s journey in the fuel industry began in the 1980s, working alongside his father in the family’s fuel oil business. Over the decades, he built a remarkable career filled with dedication, expertise, and mentorship, bringing over 30 years of experience to our team. From day one at Superior Fuel, Dave was a steady and knowledgeable presence, generously sharing his technical know-how and helping train and guide our new hires. His contributions have helped shape the strong foundation we stand on today

Beyond his professional accomplishments, including accolades like the Gallon Per Hour Champion and even a legendary Bean Bag Champion title with his teammate Joe Stariha, Dave brought a fun and inspiring spirit to everything he did. When he wasn’t leading in the field, Dave could be found enjoying his favorite pastimes: preparing for bow hunting season, spending quality time with his wife, daughters, and now especially his grandchildren, and is often outdoors in the beautiful Northland.
As Dave enters this next chapter, we’re proud to induct him onto the Superior Fuel Wall of Fame. Thank you, Dave, for your commitment to our customers, your fellow team members, and the company as a whole. You’ll always be part of the Superior Fuel family. Enjoy your wellearned retirement!

Monitor Maintenance: What to Expect
Just a friendly reminder to our amazing customers that participate in our monitored delivery program (backed by our $250 NO-RUNOUT GUARANTEE!) that from time to time, you may see a vehicle and technician come to replace that monitor or reconfigure it to ensure it is running at peak performance. The company that manufactures these cellular monitors often times handles this themselves, or through a third party company. Periodically they may stop by to make repairs to the unit, they don’t call ahead and they will not be in Superior Fuel clothing. Rest assured that if they are working on the unit on your propane tank, they are simply helping us make sure your tank stays full and the equipment operates in the manner it is supposed to. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to our friendly staff at 218-722-2050. Thank you for being a valued customer!

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS
If you smell gas in your home or business, the following steps must be taken:
Get everyone out of the building immediately.
Do not operate a light switch, cigarette lighter, appliance or thermostat. Any spark in the area where propane gas is present may ignite the gas. Call Superior Fuel at 218-722-2025 from a neighbor’s house or use a cellphone. Do not go back into the house.
Put out all smoking materials and other open flames. Turn off the gas supply at the tank or cylinder. The shut-off valve is located in the dome on top of the tank. Turn the shut-off valve, by hand, clockwise (to the right) until it stops turning.
Remain out of the house until a service person says it is safe to return.
